Saint-Martin-de-Ré is the historic capital of the Île de Ré, a village fortified by Vauban and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its picturesque harbour and its cobbled lanes lined with white houses with green shutters and hollyhocks make it one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. You will find restaurants with terraces, and craft and designer boutiques. This is the authentic harbour life of the island. The Île de Ré has 110 kilometres of cycle paths that let you discover the island without a car. You can visit the villages of Ars-en-Ré, La Flotte or Le Bois-Plage, explore the salt marshes, admire the Phare des Baleines lighthouse and watch migratory birds at the Lilleau des Niges nature reserve Île de Ré cuisine celebrates the ocean, with oysters to enjoy in the oyster farmers' huts, fresh fish and shellfish from the fish market, and the famous early potatoes of the Île de Ré The Trousse-Chemise forest offers a pine wood with a Mediterranean charm.
