An ideal base for exploring Charente Maritime: La Rochelle, with its legendary old port, its medieval towers, its aquarium (one of the largest in Europe) and its arcaded streets, is 17km away.
Rochefort, Colbert's new town, reveals its Corderie Royale, Pierre Loti's house and its listed transporter bridge, also 17km away.
The islands of Ré and Aix will brighten your days. The Fouras peninsula, with its beaches and its Vauban fort facing Fort Boyard!
