What you'll love about the area

Lapte is a picturesque village in the Velay with the Haute-Loire bell tower rising to 51 metres. Inside the church, a unique Foucault pendulum proves the rotation of the Earth. Climb to the top of the Balcon du Velay for a 360-degree panorama over the Velay mountains. The Via Fluvia greenway passes nearby for bike rides or walks along a former railway line through the volcanic landscapes of the Sucs. Towards Yssingeaux or Montfaucon, each direction offers different panoramas of valleys, forests and dormant volcanoes. The Lac de Lavalette, 5 km away, offers supervised swimming in summer, water sports including windsurfing, catamaran and paddleboarding, fishing, and a picnic area. Hot-air balloon flights are available near the dam. Le Puy-en-Velay and its UNESCO-listed monuments are 40 km away. The Yssingeaux market, the largest in Haute-Loire with 300 stallholders, takes place every Thursday. Auvergne cuisine with Puy green lentils and Velay verbena.
