Welcome to the Gîte du Montcalm, a house full of character built in 1951 and fully renovated, which has been passed down through four generations of the same family. Nestled in Auzat, a charming village in the Haute Ariège in the Vicdessos valley, this bright detached house welcomes you in an exceptional natural setting at the foot of the Ariège Pyrenees. As soon as you come in through the enclosed, flower-filled garden, you'll be won over by the warm atmosphere, which combines antique furniture with modern, understated décor. The spacious, light-filled living room has a wood-burning stove, ideal for winter evenings. A French window opens onto a sunny terrace with a direct view of the Montcalm, the iconic peak of the Ariège. The three bedrooms offer peace and comfort with mountain views. The shower room and WC are separate. The veranda provides shelter for bikes and skis. In the evening, enjoy the garden furniture on the secluded terrace, within 900 m² of enclosed grounds.
What you'll love about the area
Right from the doorstep of the gîte, the Ariège Pyrenees are yours to explore. Hiking, trail running, skiing, unspoilt nature: the Vicdessos valley is full of treasures you can reach on foot. Explore the mountain lakes and dams, the Bassiès lakes, the medieval castle of Montréal-de-Sos or the flower-filled village of Saleix. The Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Nature Park is your playground. Every summer, Auzat comes alive with the Marathon du Montcalm (2nd week of August), a must for trail and ultra-mountain enthusiasts. In winter, the Pyrenees ski resorts are just a few kilometres away: downhill skiing, snowshoeing and winter hiking are added to the programme. A stay at the Gîte du Montcalm means choosing the authentic Ariège: fresh air, peaks, heritage and the easy pace of mountain life.
