The little port of Carry and its so-called "Fernandel" beaches, after the French actor whose villa stood just above, are a 7-minute walk away. And then there is a wide variety of outings: On foot: the calanques of the Côte Bleue, for a lovely day's walking on the local section of the GR51 coastal path, the sentier des douaniers (customs officers' path), with a magnificent view over Marseille and its islands; or, even higher up, the hills behind Carry, which offer walks among the pines with stretches where the view over the Bay of Marseille is exceptional. By car: Martigues, 10' away, known as the Venice of Provence; Les Baux de Provence and the Carrières de lumières; Aix en Provence, its fountains and its little streets; Marseille, its corniche, notre Dame de La Garde, the cathedral, the MUCEM (museum of Mediterranean cultures). Food: bouillabaisse in Marseille at Fonfon, at Michelle, at Paul (in Les Goudes) or, very close to the house, at La Calanque Bleue.
